I’m thrilled to introduce to you the very beginning stages of RUBY, a site that promotes female camaraderie, supports sisterhood and inspires women to make a difference in the world.

After years of planning and a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, we’re finally live! I want to take a moment once more to say thank you to all of our supporters. This wouldn’t be happening without your pledges and help in spreading RUBY’s message.

Now that we’re live, a note on what to expect from RUBY today and in the future:

You’ve probably noticed that we’ve launched with only a few select stories. That’s very different from today’s online media norm.

It’s also a very deliberate, very conscientious decision on our part.

RUBY is operating in startup mode and we’ve chosen to dedicate a good chunk of that budget to our content. We’re working with professional journalists who know how to spot, research and tell engaging, informative stories. We’re proud to say that some of our writers have contributed to major publications like The New York Times and The Washington Post. Many of them are also published book authors.

As we work toward a self-sustaining business model, we’re being very thoughtful about our existing budget – about the amount and kind of stories that we’re publishing. For a while, that will mean just two to three new articles per week.

However, know that even as our budgets increase, we will never adopt a “just get something up there” editorial model. Sometimes the pressure of keeping up with the demand for online content can lead to a dip in quality. We want smart, sustainable growth – in our content, in our business model, in everything.

There are big ideas for our future, including more multi-media features and a real focus on RUBY-to-reader interaction. We hope you’ll come along for the ride.
