Do you know what’s on the other side of your fears? From your self-doubt? From that crippling anxiety that you feel every time you think about pursuing your calling? I do. It’s pure bliss! That’s as best as I can describe what you feel when you finally set aside the on-coming panic attacks, when you finally ignore the naysayers and when you finally step into your purpose.

Now, lets be honest for a moment – finding your purpose in itself can be a challenge. It’s an ever-changing, evolving and growing life-form that seems to get larger as you grow yourself. I actually believe that finding your purpose comes from all of the resistance you encounter as you seek it. That resistance – those barriers that you keep bumping into, they’re not actually barriers at all, they’re bumpers. They’re there to guide you down the path and nudge you toward that which you are meant for; that which you are meant to teach.

This is why they always say that we teach what we need the most, because what better for you to teach than something you’ve learned first-hand to navigate, through trial and error, and overcome incredible odds by fighting through that resistance over and over again. By the time you realize that this is your purpose, you’ve done a thousand reps, making you an expert in your calling.

Sadly, most people give up before the resistance (fear, anxiety, screw-ups) turns into the strength and lessons we needed in order to advance to our next level of purpose. To avoid stopping short of this worthwhile journey, you must believe that all of the resistance you feel is happening for you, not to you.

The very second you make the decision, set the goal, announce to the world, or put yourself out there, these forms of resistance show up to strengthen you. They show up to train you and to chisel you into who you are meant to be. So learn to embrace the fear. Dance with the anxiety. Look those doubtful thoughts in the eye because they are your friend, your guide and your trainer.

So what can be done to push past these hurdles and move toward your purpose? Focus one day at a time on asking these simple questions:
  • Where is resistance constantly showing up the most for me right now?
  • What form does it commonly take?
  • What is the lesson you think it’s trying to teach you?
  • How could this be here to make you stronger?
  • How will you use it and move on through it?
